TRANSPARENCY

What does R2R do?

R2R educates our community on how to consume consciously through communication and collaboration. As a 501(c)(3) we are able to do this in many ways. R2R supports brands that make a difference in protecting the Earth and the people on it! R2R provides our community with products, solutions, and knowledge that are entirely sustainable + ethical. Staying connected and fully transparent is another way we can create conscious consumption. Please reach out on our contact page with any questions you may have. To truly accomplish our goals as a nonprofit R2R is constantly creating solutions towards a circular economy. Recycle2riches believes that everything can be something, and with this concept we can change the culture of consumption on a global scale!

Packaging & Shipping:

Currently, all of our packaging is made by Ecoenclosed and Matrix Printing Solutions. R2R’s development team proudly utilizes other ways to reuse, re-purpose, and recycle everything. When you receive an R2R package at your front door, know that it’s all either recyclable or compostable.

We encourage you to share on social media when your package arrives, take a picture, and don’t forget to tag us and hashtag #EverythingCanBeSomething when you post!

Everything to do with an R2R product is 100% recycled. Our tags, cards, and even labels are recycled. Everything to do with our branding is handmade and customized.

How does R2R’s DropShip System work?

With most of the products we host on our site, a Dropship System is in place with the makers and creators. In a dropship system, the customer purchases the products on our website and we email the order directly to the maker to be fulfilled. Thus, in such instances, we cannot 100% guarantee zero waste packaging with our dropship system products. However, prior to hosting any maker or brand, our research team verifies that each one is in line with our sustainable values. To learn more about our dropship collaborations, feel free to browse through our Community page

Our organization is constantly growing and learning new ways to transform the current culture of consumption. As we continue to grow and learn we will be adding to our Statement of Purpose.

All of the brands or products featured on R2R have been rigorously tested and researched to confirm that each phase of the product’s lifecycle is sustainable and ethical. Most of our products are vegan. But, what does all of this mean? This means that our research and development team are working around the clock asking the tough questions, looking for the true signs and relying on our vision. We are doing the conscious consumer background checks. If you are doing what you can to transition to a non-toxic, Zero waste lifestyle, you know how hard it can be to put your faith in a brand. Try asking them the hard-hitting questions we ask the brand owners:

All of the brands and products featured on R2R have been rigorously tested and researched to confirm that each phase of the product’s life cycle maintains our values of sustainability. Our research and development team works around the clock to ask the right questions so that you don’t have to. We ask questions like:

  1. How did you start your brand?
  2. Are you totally obsessed with these products yourself?
  3. Are you or your factories fair trade certified? If not, are you making strides to become fair trade certified?
  4. Do you have plans on becoming a Certified B Corporation, if you’re not already? “Certified B Corporations are businesses that meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose.”
  5. In what ways are your products sustainable and ethical?
  6. Where is your shipping and branding products from?
  7. Is your shipping recycled, reusable, biodegradable or compostable?
  8. How many employees do you have and do you pay them minimum wage or above?
  9. Are the materials you use safe and efficiently biodegradable, as well as accurately labeled?
  10. What are your production house conditions? Could we visit or take a tour? Have you been there yourself?
  11. What is overconsumption in your eyes? Do you feel like your company feeds into overconsumption?

We also make a point to converse with the owners on a personal level. Our research team needs to love the owner and their vision. It's all about the passion behind the product, ethics behind the company and, ultimately, the sustainability of the product for the consumer. We want to make your dollar count with every purchase.

Recycle2Riches takes a small profit from each of the brands we host and it all cycles right back into pushing our mission forward.

Definitions defined by our CEO, Ashleigh Morgan:

Sustainability: Transforming your life to become a conscious consumer. Sustainability means a personal day to day effort to make sure your waste doesn't just sit in a landfill. Sustainability is caring about your planet, humans, and animals. When you think before consuming; When you replace paper towels with a kitchen rag; When you purchase bamboo items instead of wasting trees and feeding into deforestation; When you look past yourself... that is the definition of sustainability. We choose sustainability in an effort to save our planet and make it thrive so we can all live healthy lives.

Overconsumption: Producing, making, and consuming more than we need. Overconsumption can best be seen through the fashion industry. We have enough fabric in the world that we can stop producing new units all together, but instead, the fast fashion industry produces more fabric and pumps out billions of units a year. They produce so much that almost every single fashion brand has dead stock. Overconsumption means consuming more than is absolutely necessary.

Dead stock: Dead stock are units that were produced or created that can no longer be sold. Nordstrom Rack is a great example of how much dead stock is present in the fashion industry. That fashion brand, one of many examples,  runs on overconsumption and overproduction.

Zero waste: Too many people throw this saying around. I’ll have you know it is very difficult to produce zero waste on this earth. There are extremists that practically do have zero waste footprint on this earth! That takes a lot of growth and discipline. It is a lifestyle similar to becoming vegan or vegetarian. Zero waste is simply not throwing anything in the landfill. It is turning everything into something!

Ethical: Being ethical is usually indicated when a company is “fair trade certified” or a “certified B corporation.” These are key certificates or badges, if you will, that suggest ethical working conditions. Being ethical means that you pay your workers fair wage, the working conditions are clean and healthy, and everything produced is handcrafted.

Biodegradable: The Google definition reads: “(of a substance or object) capable of being decomposed by bacteria or other living organisms”. This definition leaves out that the decomposition process of biodegradable items is longer than compostable items. Unfortunately, even products with biodegradable labels do breakdown in a more harmful manner, leaving chemicals or other damaging substances in the soil.

Compostable: An item that is capable of disintegrating into natural elements in a compost environment, leaving no toxicity in the soil. This typically occurs in about 90 days. Most compostable items can be composted in an at home composting bin.

More definitions will be added as I learn more and grow in this field of sustainability.
